Summary

Peters compares two compact hatchbacks — the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo and the 2026 Mazda3 Sport GT Turbo — without declaring an overall winner. Instead, the reviewer highlights the strengths of each vehicle, noting that both are well-equipped, similarly positioned in the market, and appealing in different ways.

She begins by explaining that it is unusual to feature two vehicles in one video but takes advantage of having both hatchbacks available. Both test vehicles represent the top trim levels in their respective lineups, offering the most powerful engines and highest equipment levels.

Exterior Design

    • Mazda3 Sport GT Turbo
    • Praised for its flowing, rounded styling and elegant hatchback profile.
    • Finished in Mazda's Ceramic Metallic paint, which the reviewer especially admires.
    • Features 18-inch black wheels and a premium overall appearance.
    • Kia K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo
    • Takes a much more angular, sharp-edged design approach.
    • The rear styling is particularly distinctive and boxier than the Mazda's.
    • Also rides on 18-inch black wheels and receives praise for its unique look.

Cargo and Practicality

Both hatchbacks include:

    • 60/40 split-folding rear seats
    • Spare tires
    • Privacy covers
    • Quality premium audio systems (Bose in the Mazda, Harman Kardon in the Kia)

The reviewer also likes the Kia's hidden rear wiper integrated beneath the roof spoiler.

Performance

Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo

    • 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder
    • 190 horsepower
    • 195 lb-ft of torque
    • Eight-speed automatic
    • Front-wheel drive only

The reviewer says it provides adequate acceleration for everyday driving but is not intended to be a performance hatchback. Comfort is emphasized over outright speed.

Mazda3 Sport GT Turbo

    • 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder
    • 250 horsepower
    • 320 lb-ft of torque
    • Six-speed automatic
    • Standard all-wheel drive in GT Turbo trim

The Mazda is described as noticeably quicker, more engaging, and sportier to drive while maintaining excellent comfort.

Interior Comparison

The Mazda focuses on a premium, driver-oriented cabin featuring:

    • Analog gauges with a head-up display
    • Mazda's rotary infotainment controller
    • Bose audio
    • Wireless charging
    • Heated seats and steering wheel
    • Dual-zone climate control
    • Garnet red leather interior with upscale materials.

The Kia counters with a more technology-focused interior including:

    • Fully digital panoramic display
    • Wireless Apple CarPlay
    • Wireless charging
    • Clever configurable cupholder/storage system
    • Heated and ventilated front seats
    • Memory driver's seat
    • Red leather upholstery.

Rear Seat

The Kia offers more passenger amenities:

    • Rear air vents
    • USB-C charging ports
    • Heated rear seats
    • Lower transmission tunnel
    • Better perceived rear headroom

The Mazda's rear seat is comfortable but more basic, lacking rear charging ports and vents.

Final Thoughts

Rather than choosing a winner, the reviewer concludes:

    • The Mazda3 is the better choice for buyers who prioritize driving dynamics, performance, and an upscale driving experience.
    • The Kia K4 Hatchback delivers outstanding value with more passenger-focused luxury features and modern technology, making it attractive for buyers who care less about sporty performance.

Pricing (Canada)

    • 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo: about $35,000
    • 2026 Mazda3 Sport GT Turbo: approximately $39,000

The reviewer notes that lower Mazda trims are priced much closer to the Kia while sacrificing some performance, making them more directly comparable.
